Job summary

Coffman Engineers Inc. is seeking an experienced Structural Discipline Engineer to lead structural design for commercial buildings and managing projects from early design through construction.

You will develop analysis models and design documents while coordinating with architects, owners, and contractors to ensure high-quality structural drawings and successful project outcomes.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required.
  • Master's degree in structural engineering preferred.
  • Registration as a P.E. required.
  • 10+ years of experience in the structural design of buildings or similar structures.
  • Licensed Structural Engineer (SE) preferred; if not licensed, pursue SE exam within agreed timeframe.

Overview

As a Structural Discipline Engineer at Coffman Engineers, you will lead structural design for commercial building projects, manage projects from early design through construction, develop and review analysis models and design documents, and coordinate closely with architects, owners, and contractors.

Location: Spokane office, Washington. Minimum 10 years of experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clear, timely construction administration support.
  • Mentor junior staff and strengthen client relationships through reliable execution and collaborative teamwork.
Qualifications
  • Experience with computer analysis software systems.
  • Excellent leadership, supervisory, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Collaborate with the architect, owner, and contractor to provide a well‑coordinated and high‑quality set of structural drawings.
  • Build and maintain a strong team of professionals and support staff within a cooperative multi‑discipline office, delivering high satisfaction to clients.
  • Design experience with various materials, including steel, concrete, masonry, wood, and light gauge steel, and their associated design standards.
  • Perform and oversee structural analysis, design, and detailing on a variety of commercial building projects, including complex gravity and lateral systems, and interpret ambiguous code provisions to justify design decisions.
  • Manage scope, schedule, and profitability of projects and maintain a working relationship with clients.
  • Conduct marketing/business development activities, including proposal writing and contract negotiations.
  • Provide and implement Quality Assurance/Quality Control plans and review construction documents.
  • Understand construction realities and propose practical, buildable solutions.
Education / Experience
  • B.S. degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required.
  • Master's degree in structural engineering preferred.
  • Registration as a P.E. required.
  • 10+ years of experience in the structural design of buildings or similar structures.
  • Licensed Structural Engineer (SE) preferred; if not licensed, expected to pursue and pass the SE exam within an agreed timeframe.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Expected base salary: $125,000 to $140,000, depending on education, experience, and licensure.
  • Paid overtime at 1.0 times hourly rate or the option to save as compensatory time.
  • Competitive end‑of‑year discretionary bonus based on company, team, and personal performance.
  • Hybrid work schedule (subject to change).
  • 401(k) with a maximum of 5% contribution matching and 9% employee contribution.
