Job summary

Johnson Metal Works in Bozeman, MT is seeking a Structural Detailer to create detailed drawings and 3D models for structural metalwork, emphasizing manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and safety. You will collaborate with the fabrication team to deliver precise detailing for the structural department.

Candidates should have a degree in Architecture or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience, with 1+ year in structural detailing using Tekla.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent structural detailing experience.
• 1+ year of structural detailing experience using Tekla.
• Experience with DraftSight, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD is a plus.
• Minimum 1 year in metal fabrication or design drafting, preferably in custom fabrication.
• Strong understanding of metal fabrication processes, welding symbols, and finishing techniques.
• Ability to interpret structural and architectural plan sets.
• Proactive, detail-oriented, and collaborative with team members.

Responsibilities

• Draw and model detailed drawings and 3D models meeting specs for shop use.
• Ensure designs follow formatting standards and industry requirements.
• Identify scope changes and support change orders.
• Assist RFIs and clarify design specifications as needed.
• Maintain organized records for designs and documentation.
• Adjust designs as project needs evolve and respond to team feedback.
• Stay current with procedures, tools, and software introduced by JMW.
