Job summary

Strategic Factory is seeking a Structural Designer to produce fabrication drawings for exterior and interior signage from design intent drawings. You will create CAD layouts, production files, and documentation for permit offices and internal teams.

The role requires experience with 3D design tools (SketchUp preferred) and familiarity with signage electrical systems. Strong organization, communication, and independent work skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of experience in the fabricated and architectural signage space.
• Experience with 3D design tools – SketchUp preferred, other AutoCAD-type experience considered.
• Experience with Omega Composer, FlexiSign, Adobe Creative Suite or comparable programs.
• Understanding of electrical systems to light and power illuminated or LED signs.
• Understanding of structural design and installation methods for dimensional signage.
• Ability to read technical drawings and convert measurements into production drawings.

Responsibilities

• Create CAD-type drawings, layouts and production files from design intent sources.
• Generate and revise drawings / documentation for permits and fabrication teams.
• Produce production-ready art for fabrication equipment (router files, channel letter bender files, etc.).
• Coordinate with all sign-making processes to meet deadlines and drive pre-production and production methods.

• Experience with 3D design tools – Sketchup is absolutely preferred, but other AutoCAD type experience will be considered.
• Experience with Omega Composer, FlexiSign, Adobe Creative Suite or comparable industry programs
• Understanding of electrical systems to light and power illuminated, programmable or LED screen-enabled signs
• Understanding of structural design and the mechanics of assembling and installing dimensional, architectural and illuminated signage.
• Understanding of structural design and municipal design requirements including wind-load calculations, load paths, attachment methods, material characteristics, dynamic loads and structural redundancy.
• Ability to review, read and understand technical drawings, building plans, architectural drawings and blueprints.
• Ability to create drawings from sketches, measurements, marked up prints and technical surveys
• Ability to import and export file types to and from various graphics and production programs
• Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to handle multiple projects
• Excellent organizational, management, and communication skills; written, verbal, and listening
• Experience with signage and electrical permitting requirements, especially in the state of Maryland would be helpful
• Experience with ADA standards a plus
• Work independently with and without supervision

Education And/or Experience

• Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
• Signage or fabrication/constructional design experience required

Computer Skills

• Solid understanding of computers, data entry, internet searches, the Microsoft Office suite and email applications
• Experience with 3D design tools – Sketchup is absolutely preferred, but other AutoCAD type experience will be considered.
• Experience with Omega Composer, FlexiSign, Adobe Creative Suite or comparable industry programs is desired.
• Experience with ERP systems is a plus.

• Vision abilities required by this job include being able to see clearly at 20 inches or less, distinguish colors, and adjust focus

Physical demands

• While performing the duties of this job, one is frequently required to sit a desk and work on computer desktops. Additionally, one is regularly required to stand for prolonged periods of time. The associate is regularly required to walk, stoop, and bend over and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
