Job summary

GFT in Chicago is seeking a Sr. Structural Designer to join our Structures Group. The successful candidate will assist with structural analysis and design of buildings, transit facilities and industrial facilities using steel, concrete and masonry.

The role requires proficiency with ETABS, SAP2000, RAM Structural System, RAM Concept, STAAD, Mathcad and TEDDS, plus a BS in Engineering and 3+ years of relevant experience. A PE license or Illinois SE license is in process.

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering is required.
• PE licensure or Illinois SE license in process is preferred.
• IT knowledge is a plus.
• Minimum of 3+ years of applicable experience in structural design.
• Proficiency with advanced 3D design software mentioned above.
• Strong MS Office skills and effective communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist with structural analysis and design of buildings and facilities using steel, concrete and masonry.
• Utilize ETABS, SAP2000, RAM, STAAD and other software for design calculations.
• Perform design calculations for steel, concrete and masonry structures.
• Coordinate structural design with project requirements.
• Develop details for concrete and steel members including slabs, footings, columns and beams.
• Understand IBC, ASCE-7, AISC and ACI codes at a basic level.
• Support Lead Engineers and Project Managers with assigned duties.
• Conduct field inspections as needed.

What You Will Do

GFT is seeking a Sr. Structural Designer to join our Structures Group in Chicago office! At GFT, the structural team is dedicated to creating efficient, innovative solutions for structural systems, ensuring comfort and sustainability in every project. Our team contributes to a resilient and sustainable built environment, pushing the boundaries of building system design and optimizing performance while addressing the unique needs of each facility. GFT supports heavy construction projects that require unique problem solving, design of specialized equipment, and development of complex phasing. We also provide traditional design services for buildings, transit stations, industrial facilities, and water/wastewater facilities. Our structural engineers deliver value through innovative solutions and quality designs, utilizing building information modeling for collaboration through design and construction. In the capacity

• Assist with the structural analysis and design of buildings, transportation related facilities as well as industrial facilities using structural steel, concrete and masonry construction materials.
• Familiarity with ETABS, SAP2000, RAM Structural System, RAM Concept, STAAD, Mathcad, TEDDS and other structural engineering analysis and design related software.
• Perform structural design calculations for steel, concrete and masonry structures
• Coordinate structural design with project requirements.
• Design of concrete and steel members such as slabs, footings, columns and beams.
• Develop structural details.
• Possess a basic understanding of codes - IBC, ASCE-7, AISC, and ACI
• Assist with other duties assigned by Lead Engineers and/or Project Managers
• Perform field inspection of facilities and transit related structures as needed.

• I.T. Preferred
• In process of obtaining Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Illinois SE License
• Minimum of 3+ years of applicable experience
• Working knowledge of advanced (3D) design software
• Expertise with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
• Good oral and written communications skills

Compensation

The salary range for this role is $95,000 - $110,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
