Job summary

Cimarron Inc. seeks a Structural Design Engineer to support the TOS II contract at Arnold Air Force Base in Tullahoma, TN. The role is for a design engineer on an integrated team to design and construct a new testing facility for USAF Test Operations and Sustainment efforts.

The position lasts under 12 months with potential extension, requiring U.S. citizenship, security clearance, and compliance with PPE and safety policies.

Qualifications

  • Due to facility security requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for consideration.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to DOT random drug and alcohol testing.
  • 8 years of progressive and relevant experience in structural design.
  • Advanced knowledge of STAAD or STAADPro for structural analysis.
  • Knowledge of wind and seismic loading in structural calculations.
  • Experience in concrete and foundation design.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as design engineer and coordinate with other discipline designers/drafters.
  • Analyze and recommend technical solutions to complex problems.
  • Develop and review specifications and design criteria.
  • Perform engineering analyses and calculations; specify materials and systems.
  • Coordinate technical issues with disciplines, management, vendors, and clients.
  • Ensure work complies with Project Quality Plan and scope, cost, and schedule baselines.
  • Develop estimates, schedules, and progress reports including staff forecasting.
  • Provide procurement/subcontracting support including scopes of work and bids.

Job description

Position Overview

Cimarron is seeking a Structural Design Engineer to support the TOS II contract at Arnold Air Force Base in Tullahoma, TN. The Structural Design Engineer will work as a member of an integrated team responsible for designing and constructing a new testing facility for the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts.

This position is anticipated to last less than 12 months, with the possibility of extension.

Key Duties
  • Under general supervision of the Discipline Lead Engineer, serve as a design engineer and coordinate with other discipline and structural designers/drafters.
  • Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding technical solutions to problems of advanced complexity in accordance with project requirements.
  • Develop and review specifications and design criteria.
  • Perform and check engineering analyses and calculations; specify materials, equipment, and systems; and solve technical problems of advanced complexity.
  • Coordinate technical issues with other disciplines, project management, vendors, and clients.
  • Execute work in compliance with Project Quality Plan and procedures.
  • Execute work in accordance with the approved project scope, cost, and schedule baselines.
  • Develop and review estimates, schedules and progress reports including effort-hour estimating and staff forecasting.
  • Establish, control and report on material key quantities; provide analysis and forecasts.
  • Provide technical support to activities associated with equipment and material procurement and subcontracting including scopes of work, technical bid evaluations and review of vendor submittals.
  • Provide technical support to activities associated with construction administration including response to construction requests for information and field changes.
  • It is a condition of employment to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
Required Skills, Experience, and Education
  • Due to facility security requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for consideration at this time.
  • Ability to complete a pre-employment background check, breath alcohol test, and drug screening, which will include but is not limited to testing for marijuana use.
  • This is a sensitive/safety-sensitive position and is subject to DOT random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network.
  • 8 years of progressive and relevant experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of one or more of the following structural design software:
    • STAAD or STAADPro
    • Analyzing complex structures
    • Wind and seismic loading in structural calculations
    • Concrete and foundation design
  • Computer modeling and analysis experience.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Desired Skills, Experience, and Education
  • Professional Engineer license or certification preferred but not required.
  • Any pre-screening/tests required (not including standard background/clearance checks).
  • Performing hand and computer calculations for foundations, concrete, and steel structures.
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial availability and cost of materials.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and leading large projects.
  • Proficiency with project set-up, development of control-level schedules, progress reporting and project close-out.
  • Practical field experience.
  • EPC project experience for the following industries:
    • U.S Department of Defense or other U.S. Federal Government Agency
    • Manufacturing, pharmaceutical or biotechnology
