Job description

You've spent years designing metal buildings, solving complex structural challenges, and making sure every connection holds up. Ready to take your expertise further and help shape the next generation of structural engineers?

Job Summary

We're hiring a Structural Design Engineer to lead the structural analysis and design of pre-engineered metal building systems for commercial, industrial, and agricultural applications. You'll take ownership of complex building designs, optimize structural systems for strength and cost efficiency, and collaborate with engineering and drafting teams to deliver accurate, buildable solutions.

This role goes beyond producing designs. You'll serve as a technical resource for fellow engineers, review complex structural work, and help improve the tools and practices that drive our engineering operations. For someone interested in returning to a leadership position, there's also potential to grow into a supervisory role over the next 3-5 years.

What You'll Do
  • Lead structural analysis and design of primary and secondary framing systems, connections, and other components for pre-engineered metal buildings, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and specifications.
  • Apply AISC, AISI, ASCE 7, IBC, and MBMA standards while using metal building design software to develop safe, efficient, and cost-effective structural solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, drafting, manufacturing, and estimating teams to optimize designs for material efficiency, fabrication, field erection, and project requirements.
  • Review engineering calculations, drawings, and design documentation prepared by other engineers, identifying improvements and ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Mentor engineers and technical staff, sharing expertise in metal building design practices, structural analysis, and engineering tools.
  • Support value engineering initiatives, improve design processes and documentation, and help deliver projects accurately and on schedule.
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant structural engineering experience, ideally 15+ years.
  • Experience working for a metal building manufacturer, with a strong understanding of pre-engineered metal building systems.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel design, framing systems, connections, and applicable building codes, including AISC, AISI, ASCE 7, IBC, and MBMA standards.
  • Proficiency with metal building design software and engineering tools used for structural analysis and design.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills, with the ability to mentor engineers and coordinate across technical teams.
  • Previous supervisory or engineering leadership experience is a plus, particularly for candidates interested in future leadership opportunities.

We offer an annual base salary of $105,000-$135,000, along with team-based profit sharing, a 401(k) plan with company match, health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, eight paid holidays, company-paid life and short-term disability insurance, education assistance, and additional employee benefits.

Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates. While we prefer someone who can work onsite with our engineering team, remote arrangements may be considered for exceptionally experienced candidates with the right metal building background.

If you're ready to put your metal building expertise to work, take ownership of challenging structural designs, and help develop the engineers around you, apply today and help us build what's next.
