Job summary

Phoenix Fabricators & Erectors, LLC seeks a Structural Design Engineer to support the design of tanks and tank-related structures for municipal water and industrial markets. After an initial on-site training period, this position may be performed remotely if desired.

You will work with manufacturing, QA/QC, Safety, and Project Management to develop steel and reinforced concrete designs, review specs, and ensure compliance with codes and standards such as AWWA, API, IBC, ASCE, ACI, and AISC.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structures and Mechanics.
  • Passed Fundamentals of Engineering with ability to obtain Professional Engineering license within 4–5 years of EIT issuance.
  • Structural and mechanical drawing development and review.
  • Proficient in 2D drafting software, particularly AutoCAD.
  • 3D design experience with SolidWorks; MATLAB and MathCAD familiarity preferred.
  • Knowledge of design-build projects and relevant codes (AWWA, API, IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC).

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering for elevated water towers and above ground tanks.
  • Analyze/design steel plate and reinforced concrete structures.
  • Interpret geotechnical reports to design complex foundations.
  • Direct and oversee detailing work; prepare & seal calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Interact with QA/QC, Safety, Construction Operations, Project Management, Procurement.
  • Review vendor submittals and assist estimators with bid designs.

Structural Design Engineer
DESCRIPTION
Job Purpose:

The Structural Design Engineer is responsible to assist with the design of our core product and provide engineering support to our manufacturing, shipping and logistics, foundation, erection, and coating departments. This requires an individual able to work in the fast-paced, design-build environment of tanks and tank-related structures for the municipal water and industrial markets. After an initial on-site training period, the position may be done remotely, if desired.

Description of Essential Duties:
  • Provide engineering for elevated water towers and above ground tanks. Analyze/design steel plate and reinforced concrete structures. Interpret geotechnical reports to select and design complex foundations.
  • Apply customer specifications, design standards, and building codes including: AWWA D107 & D100, API, IBC, ASCE, ACI, and AISC.
  • Direct and oversee detailing work; prepare & seal calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Perform post-design services for troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • Provide specialist support and interact closely with other departments: QA/QC, Safety, Construction Operations, Project Management, Procurement.
  • Work with estimators to prepare bid designs; review vendor submittals.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, with a concentration in Structures and Mechanics.
  • Passed Fundamentals of Engineering with the ability to obtain Professional Engineering license within 4-5 years of issuance of EIT.
  • Structural and mechanical drawing development and review.
  • High level of proficiency in 2D drafting software, particularly AutoCAD.
  • 3D / SolidWorks experience, preferred.
  • Proficient personal computer skills.
  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering, preferred.
  • Professional Engineer license, preferred. Focus in Structural Engineering, preferred.
  • Design-Build project experience, preferred.
  • Working knowledge of codes & standards: AWWA, API, IBC, ASCE, ACI, and AISC, preferred.
  • Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA), preferred.
  • Strong understanding of MATLAB and MathCAD, preferred.
