Job summary

Shirley Contracting Company in Lorton, Virginia is seeking a Carpenter (Structural) to build and install forms for substructure and superstructure bridge elements, measure layouts, cut timber, and assemble frames for wood and metal structures.

The role requires working outdoors in all seasons, safety compliance, own tools, and ability to work at heights; typical start between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM with possible overtime, nights and weekends; competitive salary and benefits.

Qualifications

• Read and use a tape measure with basic math.
• Ability to work safely from heights outdoors in all seasons.
• Must have own tools adequate for job functions.
• Pre-employment physical/drug screening may be required.

Responsibilities

• Build and install forms for substructure/superstructure elements.
• Measure materials and lay out work using tape, square, and rule.
• Cut timber, boards, or plywood to size with saws or machines.
• Assemble and fasten material to form wood/metal frameworks.
• Anchor and brace forms with nails, bolts, and cables.
• Set concrete formwork and guide concrete placement as directed.
• Maintain safety and positive relations with coworkers.
