This is a senior, hands-on 2D structural design role for complex high-voltage substation projects, with independent delivery, rigorous quality control, and team leadership responsibilities.
Core responsibilities
- Own large, complex construction drawing packages from layout through final submittal with minimal to no supervision.
- Produce advanced 2D structural deliverables, including foundation plans, steel framing elevations, fabrication drawings, material take-offs, BOMs, and drawing indexes.
- Convert engineering concepts, geotechnical information, and vendor equipment data into accurate, constructible CAD drawings.
- Verify equipment dimensions, anchor-bolt patterns, clearances, and spatial alignment.
- Lead QA/QC reviews and resolve layout conflicts with electrical, civil, and physical design teams.
- Maintain and enforce client/company CAD standards, templates, and block or cell libraries.
- Mentor, train, and delegate work to junior designers and drafting staff.
Required qualifications and skills
- Associate degree in CADD or equivalent technical experience.
- 4+ years of 2D drafting/design experience; high-voltage substation or utility structural-design experience is strongly preferred.
- Expert knowledge of structural steel shapes, concrete foundation principles, and industrial construction drawing conventions.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation, plus working knowledge of Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects, meet tight EPC deadlines, coordinate across disciplines, and deliver accurate drawing packages autonomously.
- Strong spatial reasoning, communication, leadership, time-management, teamwork, and junior-staff mentoring skills.
