Job summary

Dewberry is seeking a Structures (Bridge) Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 to join our Mechanicsburg, PA office. This internship offers hands-on project experience in designing bridges and transportation structures using steel and concrete.

You will work with a team, develop contract plans, prepare estimates and construction specifications, and gain exposure to PennDOT projects. Local candidates preferred; no housing stipend provided.

Responsibilities

• The successful candidate will be part of a team designing simple and complex bridges (primarily of steel and concrete construction) and a variety of transportation related structures (retaining walls, culverts, sign structures, and other miscellaneous structures) using applicable software.


• The candidate will also be involved in the development of contract plans, the preparation of engineer's estimates and construction specifications, and performing construction support services.

Required Skills & Required Experience

• Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Civil Engineering.


• Good oral and written communication skills.


• Proficiency using CADD (Microstation preferred).


• A desire to work in a team environment.


• Prior experience with PennDOT is preferred, but not required.

Summer Intern Program

During the summer intern program, interns gain hands‑on project experience, develop technical skills, and put their classroom knowledge into action. Our interns are assigned meaningful work and are given the opportunity to work on projects similar to what they would be engaging with as a full‑time employee.
