Job summary

Dewberry in Fairfax, VA is seeking a Structural (Bridge) Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 to join our team. The internship offers hands-on experience on bridge and transportation projects and exposure to multi-discipline design processes.

You will work with engineers on simple and complex bridges, supporting contract plans, estimates, and construction specifications while developing technical and communication skills. A housing bonus may be available for eligible candidates.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a BS in Civil Engineering with Structural emphasis is required.
• Previous internship experience is preferred.
• Experience with CADD (Microstation or AutoCAD) is preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work well in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• The successful candidate will be part of a team designing simple and complex bridges (primarily of steel and concrete construction), and a variety of transportation related structures (retaining walls, culverts, sign structures, and other ancillary structures).
• The candidate will also be exposed to the development of contract plans, the preparation of engineer's estimates and construction specifications, and performing construction support services.

Required Skills & Required Experience

• Pursuing a BS in Civil Engineering (with emphasis in Structural Engineering) is required.
• Previous internship experience preferred.
• Experience using CADD (Microstation or AutoCAD preferred).
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Desire to work in a team environment.

Salary Range

$1 8 .75 /hour - $2 9 .75 /hour . Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly.

Summer Intern Program
