Job summary

Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a Structural Bridge Engineer to lead highway and railway bridge projects within its Infrastructure Market.

You will perform complex analyses, prepare construction plans, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on national-scale projects. The role demands strong AASHTO LRFD knowledge, experience with steel girder and prestressed concrete designs, and the ability to mentor junior staff while managing budgets and proposals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with structural coursework.
• Minimum 5 years of structural engineering experience.
• PE registration is required; SE registration preferred.
• IDOT, Illinois Tollway, FDOT, and TxDOT project experience preferred.
• Experience leading teams and mentoring staff.
• Strong knowledge of AASHTO LRFD is essential.

The belief in sustainability within our company’s practices creates a focus on client success and partnerships that are important to our communities and our environment.A Day in the Life of a Structural Bridge Engineer at HansonHere’s a snapshot of what you would do in this role:Lead or assist in leading bridge projects within Hanson’s Infrastructure Market, including highway and railway bridges, and potentially other structural projects across various markets.Perform complex engineering calculations and utilize software tools for analysis and design.Collaborate with senior technical staff and multidisciplinary teams on significant national projects.Conduct structural analysis and design, prepare specifications, details, and construction plans.Assign duties, manage project budgets, and mentor entry- and mid-level staff and technicians.Prepare and review calculations, quantity take-offs, and cost estimates.Support project pursuits and proposal development.Assist in developing project scopes and fee proposals.Other duties as assigned.What We’re Looking ForWe feel the following qualifications would set you up for success in this role:Skills:Strong knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.Experience with steel girder, prestressed concrete, and earth retaining structure design.Familiarity with AREMA design code and railway bridge design (preferred).Proficiency in structural analysis software such as Risa, Midas, LARSA, Leap Bridge Concrete, L-Pile, and AASHTOWare.Ability to work independently and lead others.Task management and client service focus.Experience supporting proposal development.Design-Build project experience (preferred).Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.Strong relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders.Interest in varied assignments and continuous learning.Education/Experience:Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with structural coursework required.Minimum 5 years of experience.Master’s degree in Structural Engineering (preferred).Professional Engineer (PE) registration required.Structural Engineer (SE) registration or ability to obtain one required; SE registration preferred.Approved Team Leader by IDOT for NBIS Bridge Inspections (preferred).Experience with DOT bridge design practices and standards.Project experience with IDOT, Illinois Tollway, FDOT, and TxDOT (preferred).Experience with complex bridge types and components.Participation in technical societies.Experience managing project staff.General Contractor License a plusThe salary range for this position is $105,000 to $135,000 per year.
