Job summary

Valmont Industries, Inc. in Claremore, OK is hiring a heavy manufacturing welder to operate a sub-arc welder, gouge and grind required areas, and weld shafts to pass ultrasonic inspections. You will set up the machine and ensure quality before inspection.

Requirements include High School diploma or equivalent, AWS qualification, and 3 years in heavy manufacturing. Shifts: 2nd - Mon-Thu 5:00pm-3:30am; 4th - Fri-Sun 5:00am-5:00pm.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• AWS welder qualification test required and ability to operate sub-arc welding equipment.
• 3+ years in a heavy manufacturing environment or equivalent trade school with 1 year experience.
• Knowledge of welding properties of various metals and alloys.
• Understanding of welding procedures and basic math for measurements.
• Familiarity with Valmont quality procedures and safety policies.

Responsibilities

• Move pole shafts into the seaming processor and set up the sub-arc welder.
• Weld, grind, and repair poles before presenting to Quality Inspectors.
• Repair seaming defects as directed by inspectors.
• Operate equipment independently; maintain tools and welding equipment.
• Work timely to deliver an on-time product with minimal errors.
• Follow safety policies and actively participate in department safety practices.

Available Shift

2nd - Monday to Thursday 5:00pm - 3:30am

4th - Friday to Sunday 5:00am - 5:00pm.

Pay:

$ $28.07/hour with a $2/hr night shift differential. Pay increases to reach $30.63/hr by 6-month anniversary.

Basic Function

This person operates a sub-arc welder and places a weld on one or four sides of the shafts. Prior to weld, operators must gouge and grind required areas clean enough to pass ultrasonic inspections post weld. This person will affect repairs and ensure quality prior to submitting the shaft for inspection by quality.

Job Responsibilities

• Working from the directions of the supervisor, the job requires the movement of pole shafts into the seaming processor. Setting up and operate the sub-arc welder.
• The incumbent will weld, grind, and repair each pole prior to present it to the Quality Inspectors. This person will also repair all seaming defect as directed by the Quality Inspectors.
• Most of the work performed will be individually on a sub-arc welder. Essential tools and welding equipment will be provided; however, accountability and maintenance will be the employee’s responsibility.
• Able to work timely and expeditiously to deliver an on-time product without manufacturing errors.
• Performs other duties as directed by leaders and management.
• Actively participate in department safety, demonstrate excellent safety practices and behaviors which conform to all Valmont safety policies and procedures.

Skills /Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Incumbent to pass an AWS welder qualification test and be able to use the sub-arc welding equipment without difficulty.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in a heavy manufacturing environment is desired or graduation from an accredited trade school with one year of experience.
• Knowledge of welding properties of a variety of metals and alloys.
• A thorough knowledge of welding procedures and practices are essential to ensure the quality of the product. This will include the ability to calculate formula using basic mathematics, standard U.S. and Metric Measurements.
• Knowledgeable of Valmont’s quality procedures, standards, and practices and will be aware of Valmont’s environmental policies.
• At the end of 90 Calendar days the candidate must be able to maintain an acceptable level of production, quality and attendance as determined by Management
