Job Overview

X-energy is expanding its Structural Analysis team and seeks experienced engineers to design and develop mechanical systems, structures, and components for nuclear reactors. Responsibilities include concept development, evaluation of concepts, analysis for function and compliance, and ensuring longevity and safety through prototyping, testing, and commissioning.

Responsibilities
  • Perform structural analysis of reactor systems, pressure vessels, piping, internals, nuclear fuel, and high-temperature materials such as graphite.
  • Use FEA simulation software, hand calculations, and engineering judgment to assess stress, deformation, degradation behavior, and lifetime performance.
  • Develop mechanical/physical concepts and support processes to create or identify structures, systems, and components for nuclear products or facilities with a focus on safety.
  • Identify, collect, and document applicable requirements, interfaces, design basis, and criteria by coordinating with stakeholders and systems engineers.
  • Plan and perform analyses to ensure SSCs meet intended functions, technical specifications, and design requirements.
  • Execute hand-based and analytical tools for structural, thermal, hydraulic, and other scoping calculations as directed by project leads.
  • Support assessment of SSCs for manufacturability, assembly, and integration considerations.
  • Write design documentation, including basis documents, technical reports, calculations, and drawings per procedures.
  • Develop V&V plans for analytical tools and qualify toolsets.
  • Adhere to X-energy quality procedures, configuration management, and perform independent reviews and acceptance reviews.
  • Maintain professional communication and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline; Master’s or Ph.D. may substitute experience.
  • Structural analysis experience with hand calculations and FEA software (ANSYS, ABAQUS, NASTRAN, FEMAP, CAESAR, ROHR, LS-DYNA, PIPESTRESS).
