Job summary

Orlando Health, Inc. seeks a Stroke Responder Nurse to facilitate the stroke alert process across OH facilities, excluding OHBFSP and FSED. The role conducts NIHSS assessments, compiles patient data, and communicates with vascular neurology for rapid treatment decisions.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an approved school of nursing.
• Advanced clinical knowledge in neurovascular with advanced clinical assessment skills.
• A minimum of 1-year clinical RN experience with care of neurovascular patients.
• Maintains current State of Florida RN License.
• Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
• Neuroscience or Stroke certification preferred or must obtain within 1 year.
• NIH Stroke Scale Certification
• ASLS Certification required within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Documents patient care in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner in electronic clinical health record (CHR).
• Responds to all OH stroke alerts (inpatient/ED/telemedicine) in an expedited manner.
• Performs NIHSS assessment and collects data required for treatment decision.
• Communicates and collaborates with medical staff and interdisciplinary team to plan and manage stroke care in the acute phase.
• Reports clinical assessment, medical history, current medications, inclusion/exclusion criteria, pre-stroke mRS, and other relevant information to the Vascular Neurologist and other providers.
• Collects stroke data and performs real-time chart review to ensure stroke core measures are met.
• Educates nurses regarding stroke care, core measures, and assessments & monitoring.
• Provides patient with stroke education including signs/symptoms, risk factors, and treatment.
• Maintains professional relationships with team members and demonstrates patient-centered advocacy.
