PURPOSE STATEMENT
The Stroke/Chest Pain Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of the hospital’s Stroke and STEMI programs. This role ensures compliance with certification requirements for a Primary Stroke Center and an Acute Heart Attack Ready Center, facilitates performance improvement initiatives, and promotes best practices in stroke and STEMI care. The coordinator works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes and enhance program efficiency.
Essential Functions
- Ensure compliance with The Joint Commission and state regulatory standards for Primary Stroke Center and Acute Heart Attack Ready Center certifications.
- Develop, implement, and maintain evidence-based protocols and pathways for stroke and STEMI care.
- Conduct regular data collection, analysis, and reporting for performance improvement and quality measures (e.g., Get with the Guidelines – Stroke, Chest Pain – MI Registry).
- Lead and coordinate education and training programs for nursing, EMS, and clinical staff on stroke and STEMI recognition, treatment, and care protocols.
- Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration among emergency services, cardiology, neurology, critical care, and other relevant departments.
- Ensure timely and appropriate documentation of stroke and STEMI cases, including adherence to door-to-needle and door-to-balloon time goals.
- Organize and participate in community outreach and education initiatives to raise awareness of stroke and heart attack symptoms and prevention.
- Serve as the primary liaison between WMMC and external agencies, including EMS, referral hospitals, and regulatory bodies.
- Prepare and participate in surveys and audits related to stroke and STEMI certification programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the hospital’s quality, regulatory, and operational goals.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of accredited school of professional nursing.
- Currently licensed to practice as a professional Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Missouri
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of clinical experience.
- Experience in quality improvement, data management, or program coordination preferred.
- Knowledge of stroke and STEMI protocols, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based practices.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
- Current BLS required.
- Current ACLS required.
- Current PALS required.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and general office skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office or related software.
- Ability to articulate complex issues clearly and professionally in both verbal and written formats.
- Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic.
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 10 hours a day.
- Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
- Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
- Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
- Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
- Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to life and/or carry up to 40 lbs.
- Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
