Goodwill of Silicon Valley is seeking a STRIVE Supervisory Driver to oversee litter abatement and facility maintenance crews. This full-time position is crucial for providing stable employment to unhoused individuals while promoting environmental stewardship in San Jose. Responsibilities include daily crew management, safety compliance, and community engagement.
Summary
Goodwill of Silicon Valley, in partnership with the City of San Jose, and LifeMoves operates STRIVE; a program that connects our unhoused neighbors with immediate employment, career development training, and transitional housing. The Goodwill of Silicon Valley STRIVE team is comprised of case managers, outreach and peer mentors, and driver supervisors – this is a key position that facilitates stable employment for program participants. The STRIVE Supervisory Driver manages the daily operation of the established litter abatement and facility maintenance crews. This program encompasses working with unhoused adults to carry out litter abatement activities within the City of San Jose. This position will also manage basic facilities maintenance in select City of San Jose parks.
Major Responsibilities:
Responsible for daily operations of the work crews fulfilling SJ Bridge Program duties
Assumes responsibility of the project vehicle and crew members
Reports behavioral issues to case management team to ensure compliance with employment and training requirements
Maintains accurate records of the progress of individuals assigned to the litter work crew program and reports progress to the appropriate supervisor.
Responsible for daily report logs, and for maintaining weekly reports to the contractor and responsible for documenting daily all litter and facility maintenance activities
Records the amount of litter collected as outlined by the City of San Jose SJ-Bridge grant program.
Maintain fuel and maintenance logs for use of project vehicle
Ensures safety procedures are followed on all sites and that crew members are safely performing their assigned duties
Responsible for acquiring all tools and safety equipment necessary to perform each litter crew task safely.
Complete inventory reports and maintenance records of the department's equipment and tools.
Ensure litter crews are always wearing approved safety vests, gloves and use litter sticks when working
Committed to environmental stewardship and protection of our natural environment
Work cooperatively with the crew members, as well as other agencies in the field
Report illegal dumping of hazardous waste to the contractor
Follow all company safety policies and procedures, and immediately report all accidents to a manager or supervisor
Job Specifications/ Requirements:
Knowledge of principles, practices, techniques, and related tools/equipment to accomplish the basic function of this position, including safety and legal requirements.
Ability to oversee adults with limited work experience. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, follow instructions, and complete work independently.
Strong supervisory and organizational skills preferred.
Preference for Spanish bilingual
Any equivalent combination of education and experience provides the applicant with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
High school diploma/GED certification.
Three years of supervisory/lead experience.
Experience with litter crew programs.
Military, post-secondary education or training in the social and behavioral sciences (or in criminal justice) may be substituted for required experience.
Valid California Driver's License
Comply with all US Department of Transportation Drug and Alcohol requirements

Emotional Effort:
Moderate: Occasional short deadlines. The work environment is occasionally hectic with occasional high activity, with great emphasis on teamwork.
Job Settings:
The job is performed predominantly outdoors. There is regular contact with the public, business and community agencies. The position requires minimal supervision.
Physical Demands:
Due to the variety of assignments with this position a person must have the ability to stand, bend, kneel, reach forward, and overhead
Standing, sitting, carrying, pushing and pulling will also be involved
Must be able to lift to 25-30 lbs. throughout the workday
Moderate emotional level effort is required, occasional high stress with short deadlines
Work environment – generally outside 100% - however may include classroom work on occasion.
