Job Description

The purpose of this job is to repair musical string instruments in a timely and proficient manner so that the instrument is returned in good playing order. A technician can specialize in one type of instrument or work on multiple types.

Duty or Responsibility:
  1. Works on rental returned instruments efficiently and in a timely manner.
  2. Ensures each instrument is repaired according to established quality guidelines.
  3. Maintains accurate records for production reporting.
  4. Performs additional duties as assigned.
About Music & Arts

The first Music & Arts was located in a small house in Bethesda, MD, run by founder Benjamin O'Brien. When it opened in 1952, it offered printed music, music lessons, dance lessons, and art supplies. The focus shifted solely to music shortly after, a decision that remains today.

Since the 1990s, Music & Arts expanded nationwide through growth and acquisitions. In 2005, it merged with American Music to become the largest band and orchestra instrument retailer in the U.S. Now part of Guitar Center, it has over 200 retail stores, 120+ educational representatives, and 300+ affiliate locations.

Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Apprenticeship or diploma from an accredited repair school.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
  • Ability to use standard repair shop tooling and equipment.
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience repairing musical instruments daily.
  • Skilled understanding of brass, woodwind, percussion, and orchestral instruments, with the ability to repair them efficiently.
Preferred Requirements:
  • 4 years of relevant work experience repairing musical instruments daily.
  • Advanced understanding of brass, woodwind, percussion, and orchestral instruments, with efficient repair skills.
Special Attributes:
  • Goal-oriented.
  • Ability to produce quality repairs efficiently.
  • Receptive to advice and supervision from the shop manager.
  • Strong problem-solving and technical skills for diagnosing and repairing instruments.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a close environment.
