Job summary

Bombardier in Wichita is seeking a Stress Engineer (Level 2) to perform structural analyses using hand methods and FEM on metallic and non-metallic components, and to prepare formal documentation for certifications.

You will review designs for load paths, support design from concept to detailed design, and liaise with suppliers and customers while ensuring compliance with TCCA/FAA/EASA requirements. Excellent communication and independent work are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant stress engineering experience.
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident per ITAR requirements.
  • Proficiency in FEM tools (Patran, Nastran, Nasgro, Altair).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • CATIA V5 proficiency.
  • Understanding of civil aircraft certification rules and procedures.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and multitask.
  • Experience in integration roles is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis using hand methods and FEM on metallic and non-metallic structures.
  • Prepare formal engineering documentation and reports.
  • Prepare and present design review material for meetings with suppliers and customers.
  • Review designs for preliminary sizing of reinforcements and load path definitions.
  • Support design from concept to detailed design.
  • Write or approve substantiation reports meeting requirements for program and certifying authorities (TCCA/FAA/EASA).
  • Assess primary/secondary structure and flight test installations from static strength view.
  • Perform fatigue and damage tolerance assessments per mission profiles.
  • Support MRB duties as required.

What are your contributions to the team?
  • Perform structural analysis using classical hand analysis methods and finite element analysis on metallic and non-metallic structure.
  • Understandcustomer requirements and prepare formal, controlled engineering documentation (i.e. structural analysis reports, specifications, etc.).
  • Prepareand presentdesign review material in support of technical interchange meetings with suppliers and external/internal customers.
  • Review designs for preliminary sizing of structural reinforcements and load path definition for structural modifications.
  • Support design process from preliminary/conceptual design through critical/detail design.
  • Write, Review or Approve structural substantiation reports that meet technical requirements for the program and certifying authorities (TCCA/FAA/EASA).
  • Assess primary structure, secondary structure, and flight test installations from a static strength perspective.
  • Perform fatigue and damage tolerance assessments based on customer’s mission profile requirements.
  • Perform Material Review Board (MRB) duties in support of operations activities (as required).
How to thrive in this role?
  • You must have a Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent.
  • You must havea minimum of 5yearsof relevant stress engineering experience.
  • Per US ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) Requirements, must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card Holder).
  • You must have proficiency in FEM tools (i.e. Patran, Nastran, Nasgro, Altair).
  • You must have proficiency with all Microsoft Office software applications.
  • You have proficiency with CATIA V5.
  • You have an understanding of civil aircraft certification rules and experience in certification procedures.
  • You must have excellent communication and listening skills, and the ability to interface constructively and effectively in a cross functional team environment.
  • You must be able to work independently and efficiently multitask.
  • You must have a good understanding of aircraft structural load path and have experience with analysis methodologies for various primary and secondary structural components (static, fatigue and damage tolerance).
  • MRB is an asset (might be a requirement for some positions).
  • Experience in an integration role or function is an asset.
