Job summary

Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ), a mission-driven organization in New York, seeks a part-time Strength and Conditioning Coach for PA I Athletics. You will design programs to boost performance, collaborate with sports medicine, and mentor youth athletes.

Ideal candidates hold a bachelor’s degree with at least two years coaching experience and relevant CSCS/CSCCa or USA Weightlifting Level 1 certifications. Flexible schedule includes after-school and weekend events.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strength and conditioning programs for in-season, off-season, and pre-season.
  • Collaborate with sports medicine to rehabilitate athletes.
  • Provide guidance on nutrition, conditioning, mobility, and recovery.
  • Track attendance and progress; conduct needs-analysis for each sport.
  • Oversee training sessions to ensure safe technique and proper form.
  • Communicate with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Monitor student progress in class and on the court.
  • Maintain relationships with staff and Athletics Program Director.
  • Be a positive role model promoting wellness, growth, respect, and self-esteem.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Strength and Conditioning Coach at our PA I Athletics.

The Strength and Conditioning Coach will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.

The Strength and Conditioning Coach will join our PA I Athletics team with the responsibility of designing and implementing exercise programs to enhance athletic performance and reduce injury risk.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • At least two years of coaching experience
  • Must hold certifications such as CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) from the NSCA, SCCC from the CSCCa, or USA Weightlifting Level 1.

What you’ll do
  • Develop and implement strength and conditioning programs tailored to the needs of athletes during in-season, off-season, and pre-season period.
  • Work with sports medicine staff to rehabilitate and strengthen injured athletes.
  • Provide guidance on proper nutrition, conditioning, resistance training, mobility, and recovery.
  • Track athlete attendance and progress, and conduct annual needs-analysis for each sport team.
  • Oversee training sessions to ensure exercises are performed correctly and safely
  • Communicate and work effectively with students, colleagues, and parents
  • Monitor and report on student progress and performance both in the classroom and the court
  • Collaborate and consult with staff on student performance in various athletic activities and schoolwork
  • Maintain ongoing communication with Athletics Program Director
  • Develop positive relationships with students that promotes wellness, growth, respect, and self-esteem
  • Act as a positive role model for students
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Schedule
  • Fall/Spring; Monday – Friday 2 pm to 7 pm, Friday 2 pm-7:30 pm
  • Summer; Monday-Friday 11 am to 4:30 pm
  • Potentially working Saturdays or Sundays is required, depending on the sport & game schedule.
