Job summary

City of Idaho Falls is seeking a Street Operator-in-Training to support construction, maintenance, and repair of city streets, alleys, and related properties. The role is outdoors, hands-on, with opportunities to learn essential public works skills and contribute to community safety and infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Some education/training to perform duties.
• Requires valid Idaho CDL with Tanker Endorsement; Class A preferred.
• Residency within 45-minute notification zone from Street Division Administration Building.
• Must be able to work a 24-hour stand-by on call and may need Flagger Certification.

Responsibilities

• Operate hand tools and small power tools, sweep alleys/sidewalks, shovel snow, apply sand/salt, and cleanup debris.
• Load/unload supplies; move heavy objects and materials for road/streets maintenance.
• Prepare ground for asphalt or concrete application and assist in patches.
• Set up barricades, place pavement markings and street signs; assist snow removal.
• Operate sanding truck, snowplow, and occasional dump truck; perform related duties.

Education and Experience:A. Sufficient education and training to demonstrate an ability or aptitude to perform above duties. ANDB. Some experience in the operation of heavy-duty trucks preferred ORC. An equivalent combination of education and experience.2. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Some knowledge of City geography; some knowledge of basic maintenance procedures; some knowledge of hazards and safety precautions related to above duties; some knowledge of the operation of standard hand and power tools.Some skill in the operation of standard hand tools and heavy-duty trucks.Ability to work in all weather extremes; ability to perform strenuous physical labor; ability to operate small, motorized vehicles and pick-up; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to develop effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public.3. Special Qualifications:Must possess a valid Idaho Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker Endorsement, Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker Endorsement preferred.Must work on a twenty-four (24) hour stand-by on call basis.May be required to become Flagger Certified.Residency Requirement: Shall be expected, within six months of hire, to establish residence within a 45-minute notification response zone from the Street Division Administration Building.Pay Range:See Position DescriptionBenefits:Full-time employees are eligible for our comprehensive benefits program which includes medical, dental, vision and life coverage.
