Job summary

The Town of Addison is seeking a Maintenance Worker to support streets and sidewalks maintenance. You will repair and maintain town streets, curbs, and sidewalks, prepare patches, set up barricades, and assist with signage and lighting.

This is a non-exempt, 40-hour-per-week position, performed outdoors in varying weather. Requires HS diploma or GED, some maintenance experience, and a valid Commercial Class B Texas Driver’s License (or ability to obtain within 1 year).

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Some experience in a construction or maintenance trade.
  • Commercial Class B Texas Driver’s License or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Clear criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen.

  • Cleans and maintains shop tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Performs on-call duties as assigned.
  • May be asked to perform additional duties related to Town events.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Job description

Under general supervision, participates in the maintenance and repair of Addison streets and sidewalks to ensure safe and clean sidewalks and roads.

  • Repairs and maintains Town streets, sidewalks, and curbs; prepares streets for concrete and asphalt patches; sets up barricades at work sites to warn traffic of work hazards.
  • Operates trucks (heavy equipment); loads, hauls, and unloads dirt, sand, asphalt, and other materials.
  • Cuts, collects, and disposes of tree limbs, weeds, trash, litter, debris, and bulk items set out by residents.
  • Assists with sidewalk markings, street signs, and street lights.
  • Cleans and maintains shop tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Performs on-call duties as assigned.
  • May be asked to perform additional job duties that are directly, indirectly or completely unrelated to normal job functions in the course of presenting certain Town special events.
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Education, and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent;
  • AND some previous experience in a construction or maintenance trade;
  • OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Conditions of Employment:
  • Safe driving record and must possess a Commercial Class B Texas Driver’s License or obtain within one (1) year of appointment.
  • Clear Criminal Background check and pre-employment drug screen.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of work safety policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment used in streets repair and maintenance.
  • Skilled in operating tools, equipment, and machinery used in street sweeping.
  • Skilled in following written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed outdoors in various weather conditions. Work requires exposure to potentially dangerous tools, equipment, machinery, and chemicals. May be required to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds and work at great heights.

This is non-exempt position. Routine schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday through Thursday. Schedule may be modified if department needs arise. May be required to work overtime if needed.
