Job summary

Description

Participates in the repair, maintenance and construction of all street and drainage related infrastructure in the City of Anna.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Operate a variety of equipment including air compressors, rollers, concrete mixers, concrete saw, circular and quickie saws, jackhammers, electric drills, water pumps, and other similar equipment and machinery in repairing and installing concrete, asphalt and drainage structures, water and wastewater pipes and appurtenances in various weather conditions.
  • Participate in the maintenance, repair, and replacement of asphalt, gravel, chip seal, flex base or concrete roadways.
  • Utilize a variety of hand and power tools; assist in routine maintenance of such equipment; assist with collection and cleaning of tools and materials after utilization.
  • Maintain and repair drainage structures including bar ditches, storm drains, culverts, inlets, manholes, retention/detention ponds, erosion control structures, and other drainage related infrastructure. Clear ditches to grade.
  • Maintain landscaping of city right of way including mowing, brush cutting and removal, and debris removal.
  • Assist the Streets Supervisor in observing contractors performing street, drainage, or landscaping work for the city.
  • Participate in the placement or replacement of all traffic and street signs, respond to road service and traffic control response as required on-call including hazardous and severe weather conditions.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and precautions, attend all safety meetings and trainings, including wearing appropriate clothing, erecting proper barricades and signage and using proper equipment and materials as assigned.
  • Assist in the maintenance and inspection of department equipment and vehicles.
  • Complete daily worklog and work orders as required by appropriate division staff members.
  • Perform grounds maintenance at city facilities.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Typical Qualifications

High school or GED, basic Word Processing/Typing; plus 12 to 18 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must possess a valid Texas Class "C" license when hired and can obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within one (1) year of being in this position.

Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check and MVR check.

Regular use of complex machines and equipment (desktop/laptop computer and software, road and production machines and equipment, driver’s license/cdl, etc.)

Outside or inside working environment, wherein there are potentially hazardous working conditions and life-threatening situations exist (fire, chemicals, electrical sources, heights, dangerous people, etc.) all the time per job duties and responsibilities. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, talk or hear; and frequently required to walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements

The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Majority of work performed is in an outdoor environment with frequent exposure to hazardous and unpleasant conditions. Work requires extensive stooping, lifting, standing, climbing, and other physical activities needed to repair streets. Ability to work overtime and/or be on-call for the department during extreme weather and/or the rotation of schedule on nights/weekends and the ability to respond to a call within thirty (30) minutes. Exerting force to lift, carry, or drag 50-100 pounds occasionally, 25-50 pounds frequently, or up to 10- 20 pounds constantly. Other essential and important duties/functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for adequate physical performance abilities including moderate and heavy lifting, bending stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing and the use of fingers, both hands and both arms, the use of both legs, walking, standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time. Ability to operate motorized equipment and assigned vehicles, adequate speech, hearing and eyesight required, lift, carry, push, pull, drag or hold moderate to heavy weight objects, visual acuity and ability to distinguish color.
