Job summary

The City of Winston-Salem is seeking a semi-skilled equipment operator to work under immediate supervision in road maintenance operations. The role involves operating dump trucks, light trucks, snow plows, tar distributors and other motorized equipment as needed.

Typical duties include transporting materials, delivering tools to repair jobs, and performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.

Qualifications

• Education and experience equivalent to completion of the eleventh grade and some experience in operating motorized equipment.
• Knowledge of operating and servicing trucks and related light construction equipment, plus safety precautions.
• Ability to perform minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate a tandem dump truck and other equipment for transportation of sand, stone, gravel and supplies.
• Operate a light truck to carry tools and supplies to repair jobs.
• Operate a motor truck for snow removal and ice control, performing minor repairs as needed.
• Operate a tar distributor during road maintenance as a trainee.
• Operate medium or heavy equipment and assist with on-site semi-skilled work.
