The position is responsible for staff supervision, training, planning, organizing and supervising of road, bridge and drainage system construction and maintenance, preparing bid specifications and budget requirements, public relations, departmental equipment and supplies, and reporting. The position develops and implements programs within organizational policies; reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports.
Prefer associate's degree or the equivalent of two years of college or specialized vocational training in public administration, engineering, or a closely related field and ten years' experience. Must have a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License in the state employed and meet minimum driving standards.
Math to apply fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions, measurements, or logarithms; may use algebraic solutions of equations and equalities, deductive geometry, and/or descriptive statistics.
Leading or handling machines, tools, equipment or work aids involving moderate latitude for judgment regarding attainment of a standard or in selecting appropriate items such as computers, peripherals, or software programs such as word processing, spreadsheets or custom applications, motor graders, tractors, or dump trucks. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, bright and/or dim light, dust or pollen, intense noise levels, vibration, fumes or noxious odors. All required safety standards shall be adhered to mitigate risk from moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, heights, blood-borne pathogens, traffic, animals and wildlife, toxic or caustic chemicals, and other identified hazards.
This position requires frequent standing, kneeling, bending and climbing. The employee must be able to use hands to operate and manipulate tools and equipment. This position requires very heavy physical exertion including the ability to lift over 50 pounds and exert over 100 pounds of force on a regular basis. The employee must be willing to work non-standard and overtime hours as required.
