Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor tasks, light equipment operation, and other duties as required within the Streets Section of the Public Services Department.
Employees in this class perform semi-skilled and unskilled manual labor tasks in street construction, maintenance, and repair, including asphalt paving, concrete finishing, masonry, and operating light to medium equipment. Work may involve after-hours call-backs and requires possession of a commercial driver’s license.
Work involves hazards such as working in extreme weather, noise, moving mechanical parts, dust, fumes, oils, tight spaces, and exposure to OSHA standards on bloodborne pathogens. Tasks are performed under supervision with regular review for adherence to standards.
High School Diploma or GED and 2-4 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination.
Possession of a valid North Carolina Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (Class “A” preferred). NC Pesticide License is also preferred. Ability to obtain license within 18 months of hire.
