Job summary

Equans is seeking a General Operative to support the Kent LED street lighting contract from Sittingbourne depot. You will install, repair and maintain lighting assets, carry out fault finding and electrical checks, and adhere to strict safety standards on busy highways.

We welcome candidates with GCSEs, ECS card, and BS7671 qualifications, plus experience with hand tools, test equipment and working at height. A full UK driving licence is essential and a permanent contract awaits.

Qualifications

• GCSEs in Maths, English and Science (Grade 4/C or above).
• ECS Card and full UK driving licence are required.
• BS7671 Level 2/3 and electrical test & inspection qualifications are expected.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair and maintain street lighting assets including columns and lanterns.
• Carry out fault finding and basic electrical checks.
• Follow safety policies, risk assessments and method statements for highway work.

This will be based from our depot in Sittingbourne.Key activities1. Installation & Maintenance SupportUndertake the installation, repair, and maintenance of street lighting assets, including columns, lanterns, cabling, EV Charge points and control equipment.Undertake fault-finding activities and carry out basic electrical checks.2. Safety ComplianceFollow all safety policies, risk assessments, and method statements when working on highways and electrical systems.Use PPE correctly and promptly report hazards, near misses, or unsafe conditions.3. Worksite Preparation & SupportPrepare tools, equipment, and materials needed for site tasks.Maintain clean, safe, and organised work areas and vehicles.4. Record KeepingAssist with accurate recording of work completed, materials used, and asset information using handheld devices or job sheets.5. Customer & Public InteractionBehave professionally when interacting with the public, colleagues, or contractors on site.Represent the organisation positively, ensuring minimal disruption to road users and communities.6.
