The City of Westfield, Indiana seeks a skilled laborer to support public works installation, maintenance and repair projects. You will operate trucks and heavy equipment, perform manual labor, paint lines, and assist with traffic control and routine vehicle upkeep. Typical hours are 7:30 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m., Monday–Friday, with on-call responsibilities for after-hours emergencies and possible weekend shifts. CDL may raise starting wages; training is provided if CDL is not held.
Performs intermediate skilled work assisting with public works installation, maintenance, and repair projects, operating equipment, performing a variety of manual labor, and related work as apparent or assigned. Leading a crew if needed. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Street Superintendent and Foreman, Work hours for this position are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday with a 1 hour for lunch; maybe required to work odd hours and weekends, as needed. This position is required to be on-call for after-hours emergencies.

Some knowledge of the safe use, operation and preventive maintenance of the equipment to which assigned; skill in the use of hand tools and equipment to which assigned; ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel, lifting and repetitive motions, frequently requires speaking or hearing, reaching with hands and arms and pushing or pulling and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; work requires distance vision, ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires operating machines and operating motor vehicles or equipment; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
