Job description

Job Overview

The Strategic Sourcing Specialist supports the Strategic and Tactical initiatives within Badger Meter, assisting the Strategic Sourcing Manager with vendor relationships, product development, project implementations, data integrity, process efficiencies, and evaluating suppliers. The role may include direct buying responsibilities and works with procurement teams to support corporate initiatives. The candidate will engage in safety, quality, delivery, cost, environmental, and continuous improvement activities to help achieve corporate goals.

Job Duties
  • Drive proactive involvement in all functional activities related to sourcing (attending project meetings, working with appropriate individuals to understand new part requirements, etc).
  • Review and evaluate the supply base by commodity to identify optimal sources for Badger Meter while consolidating to align with strong supply partners.
  • Evaluate and analyze supplier capabilities to determine best overall value and recommend suppliers for development of new or improvements to existing products to the Project Teams.
  • Perform on-site supplier evaluation visits to assist in the recommendation process.
  • Analyze and schedule material purchases utilizing Badger Meter’s ERP system and tools. May include setting planning parameters and issuing PO’s to support project or production requirements, optimizing the process to maintain short lead‑times, low inventory, yet supplying required materials in a timely manner.
  • Support Procurement Department in necessary metric reporting or other required procedures (supplier performance reports, risk analysis reports, capacity reviews, quality certification status, on‑time delivery reporting, ppm analysis, etc).
  • Travel up to 15 % of the time.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field (preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience in Procurement or Strategic Sourcing (desired).
  • Key experience in managing RFP/RFQ processes, negotiating contracts, performing spend analysis, and enhancing supply chain efficiency.
Qualifications
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced proficiency in an ERP system.
  • Basic ability to read drawings.
  • Expertise in vendor negotiation, contract management, and cost analysis.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a Manufacturing/Office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment.
