Job summary

Vertex Pharmaceuticals LLC locates its world headquarters in Boston, MA, seeking a dynamic Director of Strategic Sourcing for Small Molecules. The role leads the sourcing team, partners with stakeholders, and oversees RFx, negotiations, and supplier performance to deliver value for patients and the business.

Responsibilities include policy development, supplier governance, and continuous improvement across materials and services, with a hybrid/onsite work model and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in API, drug product, CDMO sourcing, or related pharmaceutical work.
• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or related field preferred.
• Proven track record in negotiating contracts, managing supplier relationships, and driving cost savings.
• Experience with AI-based sourcing approaches is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Business Partnering – build strong relationships with stakeholders and drive multi-year strategic plans.
• Team Leadership – guide the Small Molecule sourcing team to high performance.
• Global Category Management – develop strategies, supplier performance, and RFx activities.
• Sourcing Strategy Development – enable development and commercialization with CDMOs.
• Supplier Management – maintain relationships with CDMOs and material suppliers; drive risk mitigation and cost savings.
• Risk Mitigation – identify disruptions and develop contingency plans.
• Market Analysis – monitor trends and assess supplier capabilities for opportunities and risks.
• Continuous Improvement – streamline processes using data analytics and metrics.
