Job summary

The Washington Post is seeking a Procurement & Contracts Lead to strengthen our ability to negotiate and manage vendor agreements across content, wire services, production, and technology. You will drive category strategies, supplier evaluations, and contract negotiations with cross-functional partners in Legal, IT, Finance, and Operations.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in strategic sourcing, category management, vendor negotiation, procurement, or contract management.
• Experience leading vendor negotiations and developing commercial terms that balance cost, risk, service quality, and business requirements.
• Experience partnering with Legal on contract review, redlines, negotiation strategy, and risk mitigation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence across functions without direct authority.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic sourcing and category-management activity across assigned high-value spend categories.
• Develop and maintain category strategies aligned with financial, operational, technology, risk, and business priorities.
• Lead competitive sourcing processes: requirements, market analysis, RFI/RFP, bid evaluation, supplier selection, and negotiations.
• Present recommendations to renew, renegotiate, consolidate, or replace major vendor arrangements.
• Coordinate internal stakeholder input before negotiations to ensure requirements and risk positions are understood.
• Prepare negotiation strategies and materials, and maintain contract records and renewal calendars.
