Reports to: Vice President, Strategic Sourcing
We are seeking an experienced Strategic Sourcing contractor to support our growth into a commercial-stage biotechnology company. This individual will manage sourcing and contracting activities across the enterprise as assigned (Clinical R&D, CMC and Manufacturing, Commercial, Marketing, and General and Administrative functions).
Under the guidance of Strategic Sourcing management, this role will lead and support end-to-end sourcing initiatives, including requirements development, competitive bidding, proposal evaluation, negotiations, supplier selection, contracting, change orders, and supplier management. The contractor will also partner closely with the Strategic Sourcing and other enterprise functions on process and operational improvements, including sourcing procedures, spend analysis, supplier scorecards, and related tools and templates.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on sourcing professional who can independently manage multiple projects, work effectively in a fast-paced biotech environment, and balance strategic thinking with day-to-day execution.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and support end-to-end sourcing projects as assigned.
- Partner with business stakeholders to define requirements, develop sourcing approaches, and establish high level project timelines.
- Develop and manage requests for information, proposals, and quotations, including RFI, RFP, and RFQ processes.
- Identify and evaluate potential suppliers based on capabilities, quality, service, risk, timeline, and total cost.
- Conduct proposal and bid analyses and develop clear recommendations for supplier selection.
- Lead or support commercial negotiations, including (as applicable) pricing, rate cards, discounts, payment terms, service levels, and other business terms.
- Coordinate with business owners, Legal, Finance, and other stakeholders to negotiate and finalize contracts, statements of work, work orders, amendments, and change orders.
- Manage multiple sourcing and contracting projects simultaneously while maintaining accurate status, savings, and contract records.
- Support supplier performance management activities, including business reviews, performance metrics, issue resolution, and supplier scorecards.
- Conduct spend analysis to identify sourcing, consolidation, negotiation, and cost-management opportunities.
- Assist with the development and improvement of sourcing policies, standard operating procedures, workflows, templates, and governance practices.
- Help improve sourcing project tracking, contract visibility, supplier information, and management reporting.
- Support the use and optimization of ERP, procurement, contract management, and electronic sourcing tools.
- Build effective working relationships with cross-functional stakeholders and serve as a practical, solutions-oriented sourcing partner.
- Perform other strategic sourcing and procurement activities as needed to support the company’s evolving priorities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, Life Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Approximately 5–8 years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, supplier management, sourcing operations, or a related field.
- Experience managing competitive sourcing events and supplier selection processes.
- Demonstrated experience with commercial negotiations, contract development, statements of work, amendments, and change orders.
- Strong analytical skills, including experience comparing supplier proposals, evaluating cost structures, and conducting spend analysis.
- Experience supporting sourcing operations or process improvements, such as SOP development, project tracking, supplier scorecards, templates, or reporting.
- Experience working with ERP, procurement, or e-sourcing systems such as NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Coupa, Ariba, or other eRFX and contract-management platforms.
- Strong project-management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at different levels of the organization.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and related business applications.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and operate effectively in a dynamic, resource-constrained environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device, or broader life-sciences industry.
- Familiarity with one or more of the following categories: clinical research services, laboratories, CMC and manufacturing, commercial services, marketing agencies, information technology, consulting, or other professional services.
- Experience working in a small or rapidly growing company where sourcing professionals support multiple spend categories.
- Familiarity with regulated-industry supplier qualification, risk-management, and quality requirements.
- Professional certification such as CPSM, CPM, CSCP, or an equivalent credential is helpful but not required.
Compensation
The anticipated hourly pay rate for this position is $80.00 - $95.00 This range represents a good-faith estimate of what The Company reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of hire. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors including relevant experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity. This position is also eligible for an annual target bonus and equity compensation as determined by the Company’s compensation committee.
