Job description

Overview

We’re looking for a curious, analytical, and strategic thinker to join our Strategic Services team. This role sits at the intersection of real estate, market research, planning, design, and development strategy—using data and insight to help answer the questions that shape projects early on:

As an experienced Strategic Services Analyst, you’ll lead research and advisory assignments that inform planning, design, investment, and development decisions. You’ll dig into markets, demographics, economics, and development feasibility; translate that information into a clear point of view; and work alongside planners, landscape architects, designers, and clients to turn analysis into actionable strategies.

This is a hands‑on role for someone with 4–6 years of experience who is comfortable moving between spreadsheets and strategy, independently leading assignments, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and communicating directly with clients.

Design Workshop is a 100% employee‑owned landscape architecture, planning and urban design firm shaping resilient, meaningful places where people and environments thrive. Founded in 1969, we practice globally from seven studios across the United States. Combining research, collaborative spirit and innovative design, we transform vision into measurable impact and places of enduring legacy. Our mission is to turn ideas into impact with collaborative spirit, overcoming complexity through design, process and purpose.

Responsibilities
  • Lead market, demographic, economic, competitive, and real estate research to understand demand, identify opportunities, and uncover the forces shaping a project or place.Prepare market studies, development programs, feasibility analyses, financial models, and development pro formas to evaluate opportunities and inform development decisions.
  • Conduct specialized research across sectors including mixed‑use development, residential, commercial, tourism and resorts, recreation, and other real estate and place‑based projects.
  • Evaluate opportunities through the lens of market demand, competitive positioning, development economics, entitlements, and other factors affecting feasibility and long‑term success.
  • Synthesize quantitative and qualitative information into compelling findings, strategic implications, and actionable recommendations. We’re looking for someone who can move beyond what the data says to articulate why it matters and what we should do about it.
  • Develop project scopes, analytical approaches, work plans, and schedules; coordinate team resources; and manage assignments from kickoff through final recommendations and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with planners, landscape architects, designers, and other disciplines to ensure market realities and development strategy inform—and strengthen—planning and design decisions.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, facilitate conversations around findings and opportunities, and communicate recommendations clearly to clients, project teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance and quality review for research and analysis completed by junior team members and contribute to their professional development.
  • Contribute to proposals, scopes of work, business development, and new ideas that advance the Strategic Services practice.
  • We’re looking for someone who combines analytical rigor with curiosity, judgment, and strong communication skills. You should be comfortable building the analysis yourself, but equally comfortable stepping away from the spreadsheet to explain what the findings mean for a client, a development strategy, or a design decision.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in business, real estate, economics, finance, planning, or a related field.
  • 4–6 years of relevant professional experience in real estate consulting, market analysis, development, planning, economic consulting, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing market studies, feasibility analyses, financial analyses, and development pro formas.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills—and an ability to translate research and data into meaningful strategic recommendations.
  • The ability to independently structure complex assignments, identify the right questions to ask, and develop an analytical approach to answer them.
  • Strong project management skills, including managing multiple assignments, coordinating contributors, establishing priorities, and meeting budgets and deadlines.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to make complex ideas understandable and relevant to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • An ability to work independently while thriving in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong attention to detail without losing sight of the larger development, market, and strategic context.
  • Experience interacting directly with clients and presenting findings and recommendations.

The Kind of Person Who Will Thrive Here

You’re interested in more than producing the analysis—you want to understand what it means.

You’re the person who looks at a market study and asks the next question. You enjoy figuring out why one place works and another doesn’t, how changing demographics might affect a development strategy, whether an ambitious idea can work financially, and how research can lead to a smarter plan.

You’re comfortable with numbers, but you also know that the best strategy comes from connecting those numbers to people, places, design, and real‑world decision‑making.
