Job summary

Delta Dental of Iowa is seeking a collaborative and analytical Senior Accountant to support the financial operations of the organization, its subsidiaries, and related entities. You will prepare monthly and annual financial statements, reconciliations, and analyses in accordance with GAAP.

Responsibilities include budgeting, forecasting, payroll, employee benefits, and retirement program accounting, with oversight of compliance, audits, and funding activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including financial reporting, month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial analysis.
• Experience supporting payroll, employee benefits, retirement plans, and related accounting, reporting, or compliance functions.
• Proficiency with financial systems, Excel, and HRIS/payroll applications.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparation.
• Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and process improvement skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across departments and drive process efficiencies.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyze monthly and annual financial statements, account reconciliations, and financial analyses to support management decision-making and ensure compliance with GAAP.
• Prepare and analyze financial reports, annual budgets, forecasts, and long-range financial plans for Delta Dental of Iowa.
• Serve as the primary accounting resource and subject matter expert for payroll, employee benefits, and retirement programs, overseeing related accounting, reconciliations, compliance reporting, audits, and funding activities while providing guidance on complex payroll and benefits matters and backup support for payroll processing as needed.
• Evaluate existing accounting and reporting processes and proactively recommend and implement solutions that improve efficiency, reduce risk, and enhance the quality and timeliness of financial information.
• Prepare various management fee reports for subsidiaries.
• Manage accounting, reporting, and payment processes related to internal sales incentive programs.
• Maintain accurate recordkeeping of the company’s PAC accounts.
• Serve as back-up resource for cost allocation and analysis of cost allocation reports.
• Serve as back-up resource for annual broker bonus and monthly commissions.
• Promote service quality initiatives and contribute to a collaborative, team-oriented work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
