Job summary

City of Lynchburg is seeking a Communications Manager to oversee strategic communications for Water Resources and Public Works. You will manage content across digital platforms, coordinate with designers, and serve as a trusted liaison for department leadership and media inquiries.

You will develop communications plans, monitor performance metrics, and ensure transparent messaging across channels. Strong writing, public speaking, and government communications experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field preferred; 5-7 years in communications or PR, government/public sector preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary communication lead for assigned departments and tailor strategies for internal and external audiences.
• Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive communication plans; manage social media, press, and publications.
• Act as Public Information Officer (PIO) for assigned departments; pitch news stories and respond to media inquiries.
