Job Summary

The Strategic Pricing Manager leads pricing strategy and management across a vertical or set of business units, partnering with Sales, Finance, IT, and business leadership to improve price realization, expand gross margin, reduce pricing leakage, and drive profitable growth. This role is responsible for developing pricing frameworks, leading pricing transformation initiatives, advancing pricing analytics and systems capabilities, and bringing consistency and discipline to pricing decisions across the organization.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
Pricing Strategy
  • Lead cross-functional pricing initiatives, including price resets, segmentation changes, margin improvement programs, and parts-share growth initiatives, supported by clear business cases, testing, and pilot programs.
  • Develop pricing frameworks, price architecture, pricing bands, and discount guidance across customer segments, product categories, business units, and regions.
  • Serve as the pricing subject matter expert for commercial leaders, providing data-driven recommendations on pricing strategy, margin opportunities, competitive positioning, and business risk.
  • Establish category margin targets using competitive intelligence, market insights, and financial analysis, replacing inconsistent approaches with a standardized and defensible pricing strategy.
  • Identify margin-improvement opportunities across all commercial levers, including price, volume, mix, service levels, payment terms, cross-selling opportunities, and vendor cost improvements.
Pricing Operations & Analytics
  • Own the day-to-day operation of the centralized pricing engine, including pricing reviews, recommendation cadence, pricing requests, exception management, and quality assurance.
  • Lead analysis of price realization, gross margin performance, discounting behavior, overrides, value leakage, and customer and product profitability.
  • Own pricing dashboards, scorecards, KPI reporting, and analytical tools that improve commercial decision-making, speed, accuracy, and pricing discipline.
  • Define and enforce pricing guardrails, approval workflows, and exception policies while monitoring adherence and identifying opportunities to reduce margin leakage.
  • Build scalable financial and pricing models that support strategic decision-making, forecasting, profitability analysis, and pricing recommendations.
Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management
  • Build, lead, and develop a team of pricing analysts, establishing priorities, coaching for growth, and fostering a high-accountability, data-driven culture.
  • Establish clear roles, standard operating procedures, governance processes, and documentation to ensure consistent pricing execution across all business units.
  • Drive measurable change in pricing behavior by influencing business leaders, sales teams, and stakeholders to adopt standardized, data-driven pricing practices.
  • Serve as the business owner and strategic product owner of the in-house pricing engine, partnering with IT, data science, and business leaders to define requirements, prioritize enhancements, and continuously improve pricing capabilities.
  • Partner closely with Sales, Finance, Operations, and business unit leadership to align pricing decisions and ensure consistent execution.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Analytics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years in pricing, commercial strategy, revenue management, sales operations, FP&A, consulting, or related analytical business disciplines, including leadership of projects, initiatives, or teams.
  • Strong analytical and first-principles problem-solving skills with the ability to structure and solve complex commercial challenges.
  • High-ownership mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
  • Proven ability to drive behavior change and influence senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen with the ability to connect pricing decisions to margin performance, customer behavior, and competitive positioning.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial modeling, including scenario analysis, profitability modeling, and price and margin waterfall analysis.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and data storytelling skills, including the ability to communicate insights and recommendations to executive audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to consolidate large, complex, and incomplete datasets from multiple systems to actionable business insights.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable recommendations for commercial and executive stakeholders.
Preferred

  • Familiarity with commercial pricing platforms such as Pricefx, Vendavo, PROS, or Zilliant, or ownership of an in-house pricing engine.
