Job summary

O'Reilly Auto Parts is seeking a Strategic Planning Lead to own and advance the company-wide planning framework across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. You will partner with executive leadership to translate priorities into actionable initiatives, with governance, reporting, and analytics driving informed decisions.

The role requires an analytical mindset, strong communication, and the ability to lead multi-region planning efforts, ensuring alignment with funding, capacity, and execution

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in strategic planning, enterprise strategy, portfolio management, business analytics, finance, management consulting, program management, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting annual planning, strategic planning cycles, portfolio reviews, governance forums, or business performance management processes.
  • Experience working with leaders to define strategic objectives, performance measures, business cases, value tracking, or executive scorecards.
  • Experience developing executive-level reporting, dashboards, presentations, and decision-support materials for senior leadership.
  • Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills, including experience with KPIs, trend analysis, scenario analysis, prioritization models, and value measurement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the advancement of enterprise strategic planning efforts and ensure organizational priorities are translated into actionable business initiatives.
  • Collaborate with senior and functional leaders to develop and refine strategies and plans that support enterprise priorities while address department-specific objectives, opportunities, and operating needs.
  • Lead the continued development and maintenance of the strategic planning framework, including enterprise priorities, market objectives, strategies, functional plans, initiatives, portfolios, and projects.
  • Facilitate development and ongoing performance management of the O’Reilly FOCUS plan to ensure alignment between strategy, funding, capacity, execution, and expected business outcomes.
  • Lead strategic planning activities across the United States, Canada, and Mexico to drive consistency, visibility, and organizational alignment while allowing for market-specific objectives and priorities.
  • Partner with executive and senior leaders to continuously improve the processes that support enterprise planning, portfolio prioritization, governance, strategic execution, and value tracking.
  • Facilitate enterprise planning and governance forums that promote organizational alignment, clarify tradeoffs, and support effective decision-making.
  • Develop reporting, metrics, dashboards, and performance frameworks that provide visibility into strategic outcomes, initiative progress, risks, dependencies, and progress towards enterprise priorities.
  • Help maintain the planning tools, data structures, reporting processes, and governance standards used to capture, track, and report strategic planning information across the enterprise.
  • Perform strategic analysis that helps leadership evaluate opportunities, assess risk, understand tradeoffs, prioritize work, and make informed decisions.
  • Transform complex business information into clear insights, recommendations, executive materials, and decision-support analysis.
  • Partner directly with functional leaders to ensure strategic priorities and functional plans are aligned with funding, operational planning, resource capability, timing, and execution capabilities.
  • Maintain governance standards that ensure strategic planning and portfolio information remains accurate, consistent, and actionable.
  • Help mature enterprise planning capabilities through the continuous improvement of strategic processes, tools, data standards, reporting methods, and operating practices.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for strategic planning, performance measurement, portfolio reporting, and enterprise decision-support practices.
  • Serve as a strategic connector across the organization, helping stakeholders work together to advance enterprise priorities, functional strategies, and key initiatives.
  • Proactively identify barriers to execution and develop recommendations that strengthen strategic alignment, accountability, and organizational effectiveness.

Strategic Planning Lead

owns the development, execution, and continuous improvement of the O’Reilly strategic planning framework and process. This role partners with executive leadership and senior leaders to translate enterprise priorities into actionable business initiatives, measurable outcomes, and clear reporting. The role serves as a connector and contributor across the enterprise, providing analysis, performance insights, and planning support that help drive alignment and informed decision-making within the strategic plan.

The Strategic Planning Lead also supports data, tools, governance practices, and reporting disciplines used to track strategic plans, the O’Reilly FOCUS plan, initiative progress, and performance measures across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

This is an on-site position located in Springfield, MO. Remote work is not an option for this role.
Essential Job Functions

REQUIRED

  • Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and enterprise portfolio, project, reporting, analytics, or business intelligence tools.
  • Four-year college degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Analytics, Management, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
DESIRED
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in strategic planning, strategy analytics, FP&A, consulting, corporate strategy, transformation, or EPMO/PMO support.
  • Master of Business Administration or other relevant advanced degree.
  • Proficiency with dashboarding or business intelligence tools such as Domo, Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
  • Experience supporting enterprise strategies, departmental strategies, functional roadmaps, demand planning, capacity planning, prioritization frameworks, or portfolio governance.
  • Experience supporting, implementing, or serving as a business owner for planning, portfolio management, reporting, workflow, dashboarding, database, or business intelligence tools.
  • Background in retail, distribution, automotive aftermarket, supply chain, technology, or other large, multi-site operating environments.
  • Experience supporting executive planning cycles, quarterly business reviews, or enterprise governance discussions.
