Job description

This role supports organizations in developing clear, data-driven strategic plans that guide long-term decision-making.

The Strategic Planning Consultant helps mission-driven organizations develop clear, data-informed strategies that guide long-term decisions and strengthen community impact. This role works directly with leadership teams, facilitates collaborative planning processes, and turns complex insights into actionable roadmaps that create meaningful, measurable change.

Role Description

In this position, you will lead and support strategic planning engagements across public, nonprofit, and social-sector partners. Your work will include interviewing stakeholders, analyzing organizational challenges, evaluating data, and designing frameworks that align mission, goals, and resources.

You will facilitate strategic conversations, guide teams through decision-making processes, and help organizations clarify priorities. The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in dynamic environments, enjoys simplifying complexity, and brings strong analytical and communication skills. This role is both strategic and hands-on — blending research, facilitation, and structured problem-solving to support long-term organizational success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Fear keeps some sources silent, even when conversations are “off the record.”
  • Others hesitate, knowing that telling one truth can invite scrutiny into every corner of their lives.
  • Some are bound by legal realities – pending lawsuits, internal directives, or concerns about perception.
  • Stories, much like data, are filtered through perspective and editorial judgment.
  • Public back-and-forths rarely illuminate the truth; they tend to entrench competing versions of it.
  • And hovering over all of this is a fundamental power imbalance: once a story is out, there is no rewind.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, business, social sciences, or related field
  • 3–5+ years of experience in strategic planning, consulting, program strategy, or organizational
    development
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills
  • Experience synthesizing complex data and stakeholder perspectives
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Comfort working with community-based organizations or public-sector partners
Preferred:
  • Master’s degree in public administration, business, or planning
  • Experience with evaluation, research, or systems change initiatives
  • Familiarity with data tools, dashboards, or performance measurement
  • Prior consulting or advisory experience
  • Ability to design meeting agendas, workshops, or collaborative processes
  • Competitive salary range: $92,000–$115,000
  • Hybrid work model with flexible scheduling
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off, holidays, and wellbeing days
  • Professional development budget for training, courses, and conferences
  • Opportunities to work on high-impact social-sector projects
  • Supportive, collaborative team environment focused on learning and growth
