Job summary

Austincc seeks a Paralegal Specialist to provide comprehensive legal support in the Office of the General Counsel. Responsibilities include litigation preparation, case management, legal research, and assisting with FOIA responses under attorney supervision.

Qualifications

• Requires a JD or higher in law or related field; GS-09 requires Master’s or JD, GS-11 requires PhD or 3 years of grad study.
• Experience providing paralegal support on legal or regulatory matters (ethics, FOIA, Privacy Act, or litigation support).
• Competition for positions includes research, drafting memoranda, and coordinating with internal/external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide Comprehensive Litigation Support: maintain case files, compile records, prepare exhibits, coordinate document collection and production; conduct document review; assist with discovery requests and responses; draft litigation reports for administrative and federal cases.
• Conduct Foundational Legal Research: use Westlaw/ Lexis to research statutes, case law, and agency guidance on broad issues.
• Support Ethics and Compliance Programs: assist with reviewing financial disclosures and tracking deadlines; help employees navigate ethics requirements using Integrity system.
• Assist with FOIA and Privacy Act Requests: review and redact documents, apply exemptions, and draft responses under attorney supervision.
• Collaborate Across the Agency: work with program offices and legal staff to gather information and improve professional communication in a legal environment.
