Job summary

County of Brown seeks an experienced Museum Director to oversee operations, conservation, and interpretation of collections from Northeast Wisconsin and parts of Michigan. The role leads staff, coordinates with the Neville Public Museum Foundation, and develops annual budgets, strategic plans, and funding initiatives.

The position requires expertise in governance of non-profit museums, grant writing, marketing, and public relations, with the ability to present to boards and the public.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of museum operations including collections, exhibits, education, and programming.
• Knowledge of basic management principles and techniques.
• Knowledge of budgeting and accounting.
• Knowledge of rules and regulations regarding non-profit organizations and museums.
• Knowledge of public relations and marketing.
• Knowledge of planning and governmental structures.
• Knowledge of computer usage and required software.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Ability to write grants.

Responsibilities

• Oversees museum operations and preservation of objects of art, history, and science.
• Manages staff and contracted employees; handles performance, discipline, and grievances.
• Plans and monitors annual budget; enforces cost controls and reports to stakeholders.
• Leads development of long-range department goals and strategic plans.
• Represents the museum publicly; coordinates with the Museum Foundation and boards.
