Qualifications

  • Knowledge of museum operations including collections, exhibits, education, and programming.
  • Knowledge of basic management principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and accounting.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations regarding non-profit organizations and museums.
  • Knowledge of public relations and marketing.
  • Knowledge of planning and governmental structures.
  • Knowledge of computer usage and required software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to write grants.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees museum operations and preservation of objects of art, history, and science.
  • Manages staff and contracted employees; handles performance, discipline, and grievances.
  • Plans and monitors annual budget; enforces cost controls and reports to stakeholders.
  • Leads development of long-range department goals and strategic plans.
  • Represents the museum publicly; coordinates with the Museum Foundation and boards.
