Job summary

City of Urbana is seeking a strategic Finance Director/CFO to serve as the chief fiscal officer and member of the city's executive leadership. This full-time role reports to the Mayor and oversees the finance department, budgeting, audits, and financial policy development.

The role requires advanced knowledge of government accounting standards, superior communication skills, and a track record of collaboration with City departments, Council, and auditors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field is expected.
• Master's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, public administration, or another relevant field is desirable but not required.
• At least ten years of progressive executive experience in governmental budgeting and financial planning and management, including ACFR experience, with at least five years in a supervisory role.

Responsibilities

• Advise the Mayor, City Council, and staff on financial practices, planning, and funding strategies.
• Direct and manage the City's budget, financial reporting systems, and audits.
• Develop the annual budget format, coordinate the budget process, and prepare the budget document.
