Job summary

City and Borough of Sitka seeks a Municipal Administrator to serve as chief administrative and executive officer, planning, organizing, and managing operations for CBS. The role reports to the Assembly, with broad independence and discretion.

The administrator supervises all department heads and oversees budget planning, resource allocation, and legal compliance across CBS functions. The position requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and the ability to communicate decisions effectively

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
• Extensive experience in a senior management or administrative position, preferably in the public sector at a local government level.
• Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Oversees all department operations and CBS activities ensuring adherence to law, policy, and budget.
• Appoints and reassigns department heads subject to Assembly approval.
• Directs and evaluates department heads to ensure performance aligned with policy and laws.
• Monitors the budget and reports on financial condition and unplanned expenses.
• Represents CBS in dealings with state/federal agencies and legislative bodies.
