Job summary

Designing Justice + Designing Spaces in Oakland seeks a Managing Director to lead our real estate and architecture verticals within a mission-driven, community-centered organization. This hybrid role reports to the Executive Director and oversees a multidisciplinary team dedicated to justice, healing, and care in the built environment.

You will guide strategic planning, fundraising, and day-to-day operations while maintaining a strong focus on culture, collaboration, and impact.

Qualifications

• 15+ years across architecture and real estate development
• 10+ years in organizational leadership
• Experience across nonprofit/fee-for-service models and community engagement

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operations of real estate and architecture verticals
• Directly manage senior leaders and grow the team
• Oversee fundraising, strategy, and organizational sustainability
• Collaborate closely with the Executive Director to shape culture and growth
• Ensure community-centered, mission-driven project decisions
