Job summary

The Preservation Department at University of Wisconsin–Madison Libraries seeks a Binding Specialist to coordinate and perform binding preparation for commercial library binding and in-house pamphlet binding. This in-person, full-time role supports preservation workflows and adheres to Library Binding Standards.

You will train student employees, maintain binding data, and communicate with the bindery to resolve production issues while contributing to workflow development and quality control.

Qualifications

  • Experience handling library and archival materials in a preservation context.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and maintain accuracy in production workflows.
  • Experience using computer systems to retrieve, enter, and maintain information with accuracy and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and prepare monographs and serials for commercial library binding and in-house pamphlet binding.
  • Coordinate with the commercial binder to resolve problems in fulfillment of binding contracts.
  • Maintain knowledge of binding standards and preservation basics.
  • Train and guide student employees and monitor student workflows.
  • Utilize designated library systems and report data across applications.
