Job summary

Stanford University invites applications for Associate Laboratory Director (ALD) for the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL) at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. The ALD provides strategic, scientific, and operational leadership to SSRL and aligns the directorate with SLAC's mission.

You will collaborate with DOE, Stanford, and other national labs; develop externally funded programs; recruit top talent; guide facility upgrades; and champion safety and inclusive research culture

Qualifications

• Ph.D. is required in a relevant science or engineering field.
• Strong leadership and strategic planning experience.
• Proven ability to build partnerships with DOE, Stanford, and industry.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, management, and strategic vision for SSRL operations and programs.
• Develop new science programs and funding channels with federal agencies and other sources.
• Identify and grow staffing and infrastructure capabilities for SSRL.
• Drive directorate strategic planning and alignment with Laboratory mission.
• Collaborate on Laboratory-wide long-range plans and future facilities.
• Lead workforce planning, talent development, and diversity efforts.
• Plan and execute SSRL financial strategies and facility upgrades.
• Embed safety, security, and environmental compliance in directorate culture.
• Engage user community, advisory committees, and Stanford stakeholders.
• Partner with Stanford, DOE, and other labs to implement best practices.
• Represent SLAC with DOE and Stanford at various forums and reviews.
• Foster collaborations across departments and directorates.
• Champion disciplined operations and on-time, cost-effective results.
