Job summary

American Rivers seeks an Associate Director for the Hydropower Reform Coalition. This role serves as the Coalition’s connective hub, coordinating members, priorities, and strategy across a national network while working remotely in California and additional regions.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of nonprofit experience, strong facilitation and project management skills, and the ability to translate complex policy into accessible updates for diverse audiences. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of professional experience in conservation, public policy, nonprofit coordination, or a related field (education may substitute for experience).
• Interest in environmental policy and willingness to build expertise in hydropower licensing and regulatory processes.
• Familiarity with environmental laws (e.g., Federal Power Act, Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, NEPA) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate Coalition meetings, caucuses, and working groups to ensure productive engagement and follow-through.
• Support policy engagement, comments, letters, and strategy development with Coalition members and partners.
• Synthesize complex information into accessible updates for diverse audiences.
• Lead logistical planning and execution of Coalition convenings, meetings, and events.
