Job summary

Western National Group & Umialik Insurance seeks an Assistant Vice President, Commercial Lines Underwriting based in Seattle. The role leads underwriting leadership across teams, shapes strategy, and drives profitable growth while ensuring compliance and exceptional client experiences.

You will coach managers and underwriters, collaborate with product, actuarial, claims, and sales, and manage agency/vendor relationships to align with company objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, insurance, finance, or related field.
• CPCU, CIC, CRM, or other relevant professional insurance designation.

Responsibilities

• Leads, coaches, and develops underwriting managers, team leads, and underwriters to achieve goals.
• Develops and implements underwriting strategies balancing risk and reward.
• Partners with cross-functional teams to optimize underwriting performance and business results.
• Manages agency and vendor relationships to align with objectives and standards.
• Monitors underwriting practices for compliance with guidelines and regulations.
• Evaluates market trends and competitive conditions to maintain a strong position.
• Develops regional business plans focused on retention, pricing, and growth.
• Champions a collaborative culture across departments and locations.
• Responds to customers following experience standards and resolves issues.
• Performs special projects as assigned.
