Job summary

Metra is seeking a Lead Labor Relations Specialist (Administration) to oversee labor agreements, policy interpretation, and disciplinary processes. The role requires guiding management in applying collective bargaining agreements, and leading negotiations and arbitration efforts.

The position emphasizes advocacy, policy guidance, and building cooperative relationships with unions to achieve amicable settlements while managing complex investigations and data analysis.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Labor Relations, Industrial Relations or related field
• Four years of labor relations experience in lieu of degree
• Seven years of labor relations experience including contract negotiations and administration
• Knowledge of union contract administration and disciplinary investigations
• Knowledge of contract drafting and administration
• Knowledge of labor negotiation and arbitration
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to lead and mentor staff
• Ability to work independently on multiple projects

Responsibilities

• Follow labor relations procedures and update documents for legislative changes.
• Collaborate on tactics and strategies aligned with department goals.
• Lead and support staff on administrative tasks and analyses.
• Handle complex disciplinary hearings including investigations and findings.
• Collect, analyze, and report discipline policy data and trends.
• Manage discipline database and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion metrics.
• Serve as point of contact with union and management representatives.
• Provide guidance on interpreting collective bargaining agreements and policy.
• Develop cooperative relationships with union representatives to resolve issues.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
