Job summary

Uncommon Schools is seeking a Director of Strategic Initiatives to partner with the Co-CEOs and lead cross-functional programs that shape our network. You will oversee board governance, communications, and annual planning, ensuring alignment across Finance, Talent, Operations, and Schools.

In this role you’ll build systems, manage complex projects, and coach a small team, with a focus on scaling impact for students across regions. This is a hands-on, in-person role based in Manhattan.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required and 5–6 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in program coordination, nonprofit leadership, or operations.
• Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects and stakeholders.
• Strong written and verbal communication across audiences.
• Experience with board governance or executive-level operations is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Staff key projects and initiatives that support the Co-CEOs’ effectiveness.
• Lead cross-functional annual planning with senior leaders to shape direction.
• Own board governance responsibilities and related communications.
• Manage board meetings, content, and coordination with the executive team.
• Design information-sharing processes between Uncommon Boards and regional boards.
