Purple Squirrel Advisors seeks an experienced trial attorney to lead an in-house litigation function in Michigan. This role involves establishing operating policies, hiring and mentoring a team, and shaping the culture within an autonomous insurance defense practice.

The candidate should bring extensive Michigan No-Fault and insurance defense experience, with a proven ability to drive strategy, mentor staff, and collaborate with Claims and Legal to manage complex matters.

Qualifications

• Active member in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan.
• Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
• 5–10+ years of Michigan Insurance Law experience focused on defense and trial.
• Extensive knowledge of Michigan No-Fault statutes and Auto Insurance Defense.
• Proven track record of handling files from start to finish and leading teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead in-house litigation docket and build an internal in-house team.
• Mentor attorneys and support staff; develop policies and procedures for in-house litigation.
• Develop high-level litigation strategies and manage all phases of litigation.
• Triage incoming complaints and assign in-house counsel based on case type and metrics.
• Determine settlement value or trial recommendations in line with risk tolerance.
• Provide sophisticated legal advice to senior management and track legal trends in Michigan.
